Land can have many purposes such as; industrial, residential, commercial as well as transportation uses and just plain open space. A huge portion of Canada is trying to find ways to become more sustainable with the land that we have. Even though Canada is one of the largest countries in the world, we still need to preserve the amount of space that we have. In my opinion a majority of Canada is quite great while sustaining land space but at the same time we must find ways to reduce the amount of space that we take up.
Canada is one of the biggest countries in the world but we still need to remember, that we only have so much space! Sustainable cities allow their citizens to live within their fair share of the earth’s resources. a “green” city should still be a socially and economically stable city. We provide many services to our citizens which makes Canada a developed country. There are many efforts being made by Canadians to preserve the land that we have. Some parts of Canada can be recognized as using over excessive amounts of space although I strongly believe that it is important to appropriately handle the amount of land we use and how we use otherwise becoming more sustainable. Although our sustainability in improving, In my opinion, Canada should find more ways to reduce the amount of space we use. The first step that Canada can make towards becoming more sustainable is regulating the amount of urban sprawl that takes place. Urban sprawl is when development of a city moves into undeveloped areas. Many people like urban sprawl because of how quickly it can improve the development of an area. Growing families usually decide to live in areas of urban sprawl because, these areas offer them cheap, large homes, great schooling for their kids in a safe environment while still having the ability to live near the city side. Urban sprawl is known as a very helpful process although, there are many negative effects that come along with urban sprawl. Many people are unaware of the fact that urban sprawl can cause environmental and human health issues. Urban sprawl encourages the dependence on cars. The more people that drive cars, the more car emissions are let out therefore causing a lot of carbon dioxide o be released into the atmosphere. Research shows that the car dependence in urban sprawling areas has caused the people living there to be 7 pounds more heavy than the average person living in a non- urban sprawling area. The buildings in this area are so spread out that, a lot of Canada's open space and recreational land has been removed. I am proud that many people have found ways to reduce the effects of urban sprawl.
Urban sprawl can be fixed by finding homes a 30 min walk away from work so that more transportation options are offered rather than just driving a car and,
old space can be recycled and can be used for other purposes rather than using new space for new projects.

Canadians should also create efforts to preserve our environmentally sensitive areas. Environmentally sensitive areas are areas in which contains a natural feature, such as the habitat of a rare species or plant, and in which is protected by government regulations. It is extremely important for us to preserve our environmentally sensitive areas because they can contribute towards our groundwater and surface water quality. Pollution is a big factor which has been a negative impact on Canada's ESA's, we can reduce the amount of waste we produce (harmful waste) to preserve our EAS's. Canada can do this by finding other forms of transportation and finding better ways to handle our waste. If Canada at least begin to take small steps towards making our communtites more livable, it would really improve the quality of life in canada.
